In 1997 I was working in a bookshop. Also working there was a bookseller called Jeremy Dyson who was involved with a comedy group called The League of Gentlemen. I had earlier taken some photographs for them for a book called The Essex Files. In 1997 they were awarded a Perrier Award for Comedy and were about to record a radio series called On The Town With The League of Gentlemen. I was present for the recording of the pilot show for Radio 4 and immediately after the end of that recording, in their hospitality room, I took a photograph of each of them individually. I instructed them all to just look at the camera. I wanted to record the moment before everything changed for them.
